How Quick File Share Works

No. This is not cloud storage. Your files are never uploaded to any cloud server or stored on our infrastructure. Instead, the signaling server only helps the two browsers find and introduce themselves to each other. Once introduced, they connect directly (Peer-to-Peer) and stream files byte-by-byte via encrypted WebRTC channels.

Extremely secure. WebRTC DataChannels are encrypted by default using DTLS (Datagram Transport Layer Security) and SRTP. Because the stream goes straight from browser to browser, there is no intermediate entity that can intercept or reconstruct your files.

Because files are streamed directly from device memory to device memory, there are no speed or size limitations imposed by a server. Your local browser's memory and the speed of your local network or internet connection are the only limiting factors!

Internet Usage & Performance FAQ

No. Files are transferred directly between your devices using a secure peer-to-peer (WebRTC) connection. Our server is only used to establish the connection and never stores your files.

  • If both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi or local network, the file is usually transferred over the local network and does not consume your Internet data.
  • If the devices are on different networks (for example Home Wi-Fi to Mobile Data, or Home Wi-Fi to Office Wi-Fi), the transfer uses the Internet. The sender uploads the file while the receiver downloads it.

For the fastest transfers and to avoid Internet data usage, connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network before starting the transfer.

Transfer speed depends on your network quality and upload/download speeds. The estimated time automatically updates as the transfer progresses and becomes more accurate after a short time.
